With this release, Anjos is re-directing RAC to songwriting which accounts for the records intimate but full-lunged tone, as heard on the records second single I Still Wanna Know, featuring vocals and a guitar solo from Weezer's Rivers Cuomo as well as additional production by Classixx.

SHABAZZ PALACES - Quazarz: Born on a Gangster Star & SHABAZZ PALACES - Quazarz vs. The Jealous Machines - Sub Pop
Quazarz vs. The Jealous Machines is one of two new albums by interstellar hip-hop enigma Shabazz Palaces, aka Ishmael Butler (who, in another galaxy, performs in Digable Planets) and Tendai Maraire. Quazarz vs. the Jealous Machines, and its companion, Quazarz: Born on a Gangster Star, were both produced by Knife Knights (i.b e.b.) and mixed by Blood. Both albums come out July 14th, 2017. Quazarz came to the Earth from somewhere else, a musical ambassador from his place to ours. Somehow, through fire or through fury, the Palaceer of Shabazz Palaces caught wind of the tale, and it is through his prism that we hear the story. The beach was there, and Atlaantiis, and chemical alterations and cell memories and Andre Norton, Richard K. Morgan, and always Octavia Butler. There were killings and there were votes, and brutality in both. There was sound and there were other worlds, and there was a vastness so participation sometimes came only at the edges. And the Palaceer coasted down with the alien notion, like Quazarz, and so became. On Quazarz when they look at this place they see the inhabitants, the humans, but they don’t assess as we do. And so Quazarz was sent to meet a cat with vibration, a creative and courageous, caring, compassionate dude that stood out. The dude was a drug dealer, but that was neither here nor there, until his dealings squashed the rendezvous, leaving our alien alone to figure out what this place is really all about. Coming from a simpler, more essential, innocent place, the hero could not make heads nor tails of most advancements. From an aerial view, he saw that a good percentage of earthly vibrations were on very small squares and it became his belief that this world was very disposable and the spans short. His opinion was not of anything good nor bad but simply the truth. The machines—he noted—though at the behest of their master’s voice, are scorned, and jealous as all hell. And so the tale is told while surfing on the board of Shabazz Palaces, with its sturdy base angled for takeoff on a new trajectory. There is new blood and space and room to be different and have different assets and different art and different ways to talk and also open up some space inside to do something new. There are pages and there are drawings, and color and faces and inked dialogues written in ancient futuristic hieroglyph. There are scales and there is melody and there are Sunny days and there is Darkness, but that—it should be noted—to the Palaceer is not a lack of illumination or brightness. Maybe it is dark, but in it is always optimism and joy, a bright darkness and a full, hopeful one as well.

SILVERSTEIN - Dead Reflection - Rise Records
"While it’s difficult for any artist to find and gain success, the real struggle comes with sustaining it. Silverstein are one of those rare artists that have found a way to stand the test of time. Their formula is no secret: they have been going at full speed, nonstop for the past 17 years. They’ve taken no breaks between touring and recording, and have consistently produced quality albums and played sold out shows across the world. Since their inception, they’ve played over 1,800 shows and sold over 1 million albums. The band’s most recent headline tour resulted in 90% sell out business, while playing 1,000 capacity venues in 40 US major markets. Silverstein will also be appearing on the entire 2017 Vans Warped Tour, proving that the band’s relevance is still thriving. Silverstein’s newest album, “Dead Reflection” is one of the band’s strongest albums to date. These 12 songs are each uniquely crafted to showcase the band’s signature mixture of emotional screams and soaring melodies. Every band writes one record that truly captures their essence and showcases their character. It is the album immediately recommended when discovering a band’s discography. This will become Silverstein’s trademark album. “Dead Reflection” is a timeless album. This is Silverstein at the top of their game, and they are proving that after 17 years of continued success, they can still bring something new and exciting to the table."

WAXAHATCHEE - Out In The Storm - Merge Records
Out In The Storm, Katie Crutchfield’s fourth album as Waxahatchee and her second release with Merge, is the blazing result of a woman reawakened. Her most autobiographical and honest album to date, Out in the Storm is a self-reflective anchor in the story of both her songwriting and her life. As Crutchfield prepared for the release of her Merge debut Ivy Tripp, she found herself depleted emotionally and professionally amidst the dissolution of a noxious relationship. “Ivy Tripp doesn’t really have any resolution. It’s a lot of beating around the bush, and superficially trying to see my life clearly, but just barely scratching the surface. Out in the Storm digs into what I was going through without blinking. It’s a very honest record about a time in which I was not honest with myself.” The album was tracked at Miner Street Recordings in Philadelphia with John Agnello, a producer, recording engineer, and mixer known for working with some of the most iconic musicians of the last 25 years, including Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth. Agnello and Crutchfield worked together for most of December 2016, along with the band: sister Allison Crutchfield on keyboards and percussion, Katherine Simonetti on bass, and Ashley Arnwine on drums; Katie Harkin, touring guitarist with Sleater-Kinney, also contributed lead guitar. At Agnello’s suggestion, the group recorded most of the music live to enhance their unity in a way that gives the album a fuller sound compared to past releases, resulting in one of Waxahatchee’s most guitar-driven releases to date.

Five decades ago, in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco, a social movement was growing. Young people, with heads full of progressive ideas and evolving attitudes toward sex, drugs and rock and roll, were converging on the area to celebrate their personal freedom–an extension of that January’s “Human Be-In” in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. The “Summer of Love,” as it was called, was the birth of the modern counterculture, and music played an integral role in the shaping, influencing and mainstreaming of these daring new ideas. Rhino Records will celebrate that historic period with 18 catalog titles this July–including new compilations and vinyl reissues of classic albums. STU LARSEN - Resolute

STU LARSEN - ResoluteSTU LARSEN - Resolute - Nettwerk RecordsSTU LARSEN - Resolute
Australian singer/songwriter Stu Larsen returns with Resolute, the follow up album to his debut release Vagabond.  Larsen recorded Resolute with impromptu voice memos on his phone, architecting a primitive framework for the songs. As Larsen combed through hundreds of files, he tucked himself away in different locations to write the demos - a cottage in Scotland, an apartment in Spain and an army bunker in Australia.  Long-time friend, producer and songwriter Luke Thompson eventually joined him at Mike Rosenberg’s (aka Passenger) studio in Brighton to finish up the demos. With the ideas solidified, Larsen got more than he bargained for on a stopover for a wedding in Indonesia before formal recording took place in Australia... “My appendix burst,” he sighs. “I had to have the operation there. I couldn’t fly. I was recovering for about 10 days. Luke knew the songs so well that he was able to start the recording without me, thankfully. Although, I wasn’t there for the first two weeks, it was pretty amazing to come into what he put down.” Back on his feet, Larsen finished the new album’s ten songs. Larsen previewed Resolute with a rough demo of “By The River” that quickly earned half a million Spotify streams. “By The River” is an airy love letter to a New Zealand river that was an arduous process to complete. The song culminates on a wiry and wild solo that, as he describes it, “is the sound of frustration being worked out through my guitar.”

VIOLENT FEMMES - Two Mics & The Truth: Unplugged & Unhinged In America

Two Mics & The Truth: Unplugged & Unhinged In America is the legendary '80s folk-punks' follow up to last year's critically acclaimed, 'We Can Do Anything'. All of the songs on Two Mics, including iconic favorites such as "American Music" and new hits like "Memory", were recorded during sessions at various radio stations across the country. Violent Femmes came together in 1981 and were quickly applauded as one of the most inventive and original bands of the era, constantly pushing forward with their singular blend of folk and punk, sarcasm and spirituality. The Milwaukee-based band first attracted attention while busking in front of their hometown's Oriental Theatre. The performance caught the ears of that night's headliners, Pretenders Chrissie Hynde and the late James Honeyman-Scott, who invited the young group to open the sold out concert with a brief acoustic set. From there Violent Femmes released eight studio albums and more than a dozen iconic singles. Violent Femmes' remarkable three-decade-plus career has earned them cumulative worldwide sales in excess of 10 million, with 1983's Violent Femmes awarded with RIAA platinum certification eight years after it's initial release.
